Current Context: Uttar Pradesh government has signed an agreement with tech giant Google to form geotagcommunity kitchens and community shelters across the state.
- By doing so, Uttar Pradesh has become the first state in India to geotag its 7,368 community kitchens and community shelterswhich produce 12 lakh food packets a day.
- During the lockdown situation, the government faced challenges about passing the information to its community regarding the location of shelter homes and community kitchens, so now tech giant Google has 'Geo-map' the locations of all these establishments on the Google Maps app for ease of beneficiaries.
- Various NGOs and religious organizations cameforward to build this initiative. Remote Sensing Applications Centre (RSAC), Lucknow developed an application by feeding the data regarding the latitudes and longitudes location of community kitchens.
