Current Context: Nokia and Bharti Airtel have signed a multi-year agreement with an aim to boost network capacity and hence provide good customer experience.

  • The two companies have signed an agreement for $1 Billion.
  • Under this agreement: (a)Airtel to deploy Nokia’s Single Radio Access Network (SRAN) solution to enhance network capacity in the world’s second-largest telecoms market. (b) The end-to-end deal includes Air Scale Radio Access, Baseband, and related Service. (c)Enhances 5G readiness of Airtel’s network.
  • The 5G connectivity in the future will see approximately 300,000 radio units deployed across several spectrum bands, including 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, and 2300 MHz, and is expected to be completed by 2022.
