Current Context: NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant chairs Empowered Committee to review coordination between various stakeholders for COVID-19 related response activities.

  • The committee aims to formulate plans with three group of stakeholders namely:
    1. The UN agencies, World Bank, Asian Development Bank
    2. Civil Society Organisations and Development partners
    3. Industry associations namely Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), NASSCOM
  • There are over 92000 NGOs/CSOs who have registered themselves on Darpan portal of NITI Aayog. So the committee headed by Amitabh Kant has made an appeal to these NGOs to provide guidance and assistance to the GOI in identifying hotspots in order to enhance social distancing, isolation and combating COVID-19.
  • Also the committee has asked the NGOs to depute their volunteers and caregivers to deliver needy services to elder people, persons with the disabilities , children, transgender persons etc.
