Current Context: Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi (IIIT-Delhi), has developed an app called ‘WashKaro’ which warns people about the coronavirus containment
zone nearby them and helps them to verify whether the news about the pandemic is genuine or fake one. It aims to provide the right information in the right format at the right time to the people.
- The content on the app is delivered in the Hindi language as well as in audio format which is helpful for those who cannot read.
- The app delivers government advisories from official pages and contains a Symptom Tracker (based upon WHO) for people to know if they are safe.
- The app is based on Bluetooth technology for communication and does not need internet or location services. No data is stored anywhere on any server.
- It makes use of Artificial Intelligence technology to cross-reference news with WHO documents.
- It is developed by professor Ponnurangam Kumaraguru and Dr. Tavpritesh Sethi of the Indrapra IIIT-Delhi along with five students.
