Current Context: World Economic Forum (WEF) has released the Energy Transition Index (ETI).
- As per the report it is observed that India has moved up by two positions because of the improvement achieved by India in key parameters like economic growth, energy security and environmental sustainability.
- This time, India has ranked 74th position on the global Energy Transition Index (ETI). In the previous year, it was ranked at 76th position.
- Sweden has topped in the report for a third consecutive year.
- Sweden is followed by Switzerland and Finland in the second and third positions respectively.
- As per the report, India has made significant improvement in energy efficiency through bulk procurement of LED bulbs, smart meters, and programs for labelling of appliances. India is also experimenting with similar measures to drive down the costs of electric vehicles (EV).
