Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT Madras) has developed a Magnesium alloys to replace Steel and Aluminum in automotive and aerospace components.
Light-Weight Alloys to Replace Steel and Aluminum in Cars
  • The researchers in IIT Madras have worked along with the University of North Texas and US Army Research Laboratory for this invention.
  • The lightweight magnesium alloys usage in automotive and aerospace components will lead to reduce carbon footprint and increase fuel efficiency.
  • The replacement of steel and aluminum with magnesium made because the density of magnesium is two-third of aluminum and one-quarter of steel.
