Current Context: The state government of Kerala has announced a free internet project called K-FON (Kerala Fibre Optic Network).
- The project aims to provide free internet access to the economical weak section of the state.
- This project will be commissioned in December 2020.
- The costing of the project is Rs 1,500 crore and Kerala is the first state to offer internet as the fundamental right to its citizens.
- Various companies like BEL, Railtel, SRIT and LS cables are going to work for this project.
