Current Context: Suraksha Store initiative has been launched by the Department of Consumer Affairs.
- To launch this initiative the consumer affairs department has partnered with tow tech startups Safejobs and Seekify.
- The two startups will help to use technology to prevent the spread of Covid-19 at the local Kirana store level.
- The initiative will help to ensure the health safety of citizens during and after the lockdown period and will control and limit the spread of coronavirus.
- Suraksha Store initiative will help to educate Kirana store owners across the country about the Covid-19 safety guidelines and protocols required to be followed while running their businesses and shops.
- The protocols to be followed by them are decided by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
- The citizens are asked to make use of Arogya Setu app and to find a Suraksha Store near them
- Currently, 7 lakh retailers have enrolled for the training to be given under this initiative and over 70K Kirana employees have completed the awareness training.
