Current Context: India and Bhutan have signed their first Indo-Bhutan Joint Venture Hydroelectric Project.
- It is basically a joint venture between Bhutan Government and Kholongchhu Hydro Energy Limited for 600 Megawatt Kholongchhu Hydroelectric Project.
- The project will be developed by Kholongchhu Hydro Energy Limited, which is a joint venture company formed between Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVNL) of India and Drunk Green Power Corporation (DGPC) of Bhutan.
- The project is expected to complete by the year 2025.
- An underground powerhouse of four 150MW turbines with the water impounded by a concrete gravity dam of 95 meters in height will be developed under this project.
