Current Context: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan on 20th June 2020.
- Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan aims to provide employment opportunities to the migrant workers who have returned to their native states amidst of lockdown situation and has lost their jobs due to COVID-19 pandemic.
- The launching of the scheme took place via video conference from village Telihar, Block Beldaur, district Khagaria of Bihar.
- The campaign of Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan is of 125 days and will be carried out in mission mode.
- The campaign will be coordinated and managed by 12 different ministries including Panchayati raj, Ministry of road and transport, Petroleum and Natural Gas, Telecomm and agriculture etc.
- A total number of 116 districts will be covered under this Abhiyan. It includes the districts of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Odisha and Jharkhand.
- Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan is a Rs 50,000 crore employment scheme.
