Current Context: Government of Odisha has launched ‘Balaram Yojana’ with an aim to provide agricultural credit of Rs 1040 crore to landless farmers who are facing problems due to COVID-19.
- The state government has designed this scheme in partnership with NABARD Bank.
- The government will provide landless farmers loan amounts via joint liability groups (JLG) to about 7 lakh farmers in the next 2 years.
- The scheme will remain open for 3 months so that respective Trust will be able to make subscriptions and the period of lending by the trust will be up to 90 days.
- The Institute on Management of Agricultural Extension (IMAGE) will manage the implementation of the scheme at the state level and Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) will manage at the district level.
