Current Context: The G20 Digital Ministers Meeting was held on 22nd July 2020 and was addressed by Union IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad via video conference.

  • Saudi Arabia was the hosting country of the meet.
  • The meeting was held as a part of Sherpa Track for the G20 Leaders’ Summit 2020. 
  • The three main tracks/ points discussed in the meeting were: (a) Sherpa Track. (b)Finance based governmental discussion (c)Civil Society organisations participate via engagement group.
  • The theme for G20 Digital Ministers Meeting: ‘Realizing the opportunities of 21st Century for all’.
  • Union IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad highlighted the actions taken by India to combat COVID-19. He also highlighted the use of digital technologies in combating and defeating the pandemic.
  • He also discussed India’s agenda like to create empowerment opportunities, to safeguard the planet and to boost technologies and its usage in vast areas of the economy.
  • He also focused his view on the point that data must belong to the sovereign nation in order to maintain privacy and security in the digital era and to build trustworthy digital solutions with the help of AI technology and to enhance cybersecurity.
