Current Context: Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare and Earth Science, Dr Harsh Vardhan has launched an app for a weather forecast.
- The name of the app is ‘Mausam’.
- The app was launched on the occasion of the 14th foundation day of the ministry of earth sciences.
- Mausam app is developed by International Crop Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), Indian Institute of Tropical Metrology (IITM), Pune and by Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
- The app will provide data related to the weather forecast, nowcast and warnings on weather disaster if any occurs.
- It is also designed to provide data to display current temperature, humidity and speed of the wind and its direction of flow. This data will be provided for around 200 cities in the country.
- The app will provide weather forecast for the next 7 days to the user.
- It will also provide colour coding based alerts and warnings in red, yellow and orange colour.
- Along with this app, Union Minister, Dr Harsh Vardhan also launched Knowledge Resource Centre Network (KRCNet) which will act as a destination for research, publications and e-resource of all institutions that are under the ministry of earth sciences.
