‘Chunauti’--A Next Generation Startup Challenge Contest

Current Context: Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology has launched a next-generation startup challenge contest, titled as ‘Chunauti’.
‘Chunauti’--A Next Generation Startup Challenge Contest
  • The contest is launched to boost and encourage startups and software products especially in tier-II cities of India.
  • Under this contest, 300 number of startups, who are working in identified areas will be offered with an initial fund amount of upto Rs 25 lakhs along with other mandatory facilities and support.
  • The support to the identified startups will be given from software technology parks of India. Support like incubation facilities, mentorship, access to funds, secured testing facilities, industrial connections, legal authorities completion, human resource management, training and in IPR a patent filing matters will be offered.
  • The leading cloud service providers will also be granted with cloud credits so that they can avail cloud computing technology to build a variety of applications.
  • For this ‘Chunauti’ contest, a budget of Rs 95.03 crore is sanctioned by GOI for a tenure of three years.
  • The startups who can become the part of this contest: (1) Edu-tech, agri-tech, fin-tech solutions providers (2)Supply chain, logistics and transportation management based startups (3) Infrastructure and remote monitoring (4) Healthcare, diagnostic preventive and psychological care (5) Jobs and skilling, linguistic tools and tech.
  • The startups will be selected through the pre-incubation programme and will be mentored for six months. During this period of pre-incubation, the startup will be paid with an amount of Rs 10,000 per month.
  • During the launch of this contest, a foundation stone for digital training and skilling centre of National Institute of Electronics and IT (NIELIT) at Muzaffarpur, Bihar was also laid down.
