Current Context: The Ministry of Defence has issued a draft on ‘Defence Production and Export Promotion Policy (DPEPP) 2020’.
- The draft is issued as a first step to get the public feedback for the DPEPP 2020.
- The DPEPP 2020 aims to achieve defence manufacturing turnover of $ 25 billion i.e. Rs 1,75,000 crore.
- This policy frame work aims to build India among leading defence and aerospace manufacturing countries.
- The policy is a part of Aatma Nirbhar Bharat package which aims to make India self-reliant in defence and aerospace manufacturing.
- The policy aims to boost ‘Make in India’ initiative along with achievements like Procurement Reforms, Indigenization and support to MSMEs and startups, optimize resource utilization, generate FDI AND build Ease of Business Doing platform, Develop R&D in India, Develop Quality assurance, Increase preciseness and accuracy in defence and aerospace manufacturing sector.
