Current Context: Government of Delhi has launched ‘Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy’.
- The policy aims to waive road tax and registration fees.
- This is the progressive policy which will boost the economy. Reduce pollution and will create employment opportunities.
- The moto behind this policy is to constitute 25% electric vehicles by 2024 in Delhi. Currently, the number of electric vehicles constitute to 0.29% in the city.
- An incentive of Rs 30,000 crore for autos, 2 wheelers, fright vehicles and e-rickshaws will be given and an incentive of Rs 1.5 lakh will be given to the cars.
- A low-interest loan on electric commercial vehicles will also be given under this policy.
- A ‘State Electric Vehicle Board’ with 200 charging station will be built in one year under this policy.
- The initial period of the Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy is three years and later upon reviewing it by the government, the period will be extended.
