Current Context: Union Cabinet has approved to set up National Recruitment Agency (NRA) which will conduct Common Eligibility Test (CET).
- The approval to set NRA was given by union cabinet which is headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the announcement for same was made by Union Minister Prakash Javadekar.
- The National Recruitment Agency will prove beneficial to job seeking youths in India as the agency will result in transformational reform in recruitment process for central government jobs.
- The NRA will be comprised of representatives from recruitments like ministry of railways, ministry of finance/departments of financial services, Staff Selection Commission, RRBs and IBPS.
- An amount of Rs 1517.57 crore has been sanctioned by GOI to NRA which is expected to act as a specialist body which will offer state-of-the-art technology and transparent recruitment practices for central government jobs.
- Features of CET: It will be conducted for non-technical post recruitment. The score will be valid for 3 years. No restriction on number of attempts to appear for CET exam. Separate CET for 10th, 12th pass and graduated candidates will be conducted. CET exam will be available in the number of Indian Languages.
