Current Context: Price Monitoring and Resource Unit (PMRU) is established in Karnataka.
Price Monitoring and Resource Unit (PMRU) -- Karnataka
  • The announcement for the establishment of PMRU was made by Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilisers DV Sadananda Gowda.
  • The PMRU is developed and established by NPPA (National Pharmaceutical and Pricing Authority), Department of Pharmaceuticals, Chemical and Fertilisers Ministry, GOI, in partnership with Karnataka State Drug Control Department.
  • The aim behind this PMRU launching is that, PMRU will assist and guide NPPA in order to monitor prices of drugs, availability of drugs in the market and will also create awareness of consumers regarding knowledge and consumptions of various drugs.
  • PMRU will act as an information collecting mechanism from the grass-root level to NPPA. 
  • The supervisory authority of PMRU is given to State Drug Controller which will keep track on PMRU. 
  • The finance and expenses of PMRU are handled by NPPA the central sector scheme named Consumer Awareness , Publicity and Price Monitoring (CAPPM).
