Current Context: Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Government of India has issued and released the draft guidelines on advertisements.

  • The guidelines are framed by Central Consumer Protection Authority under the Consumer Protection Act 2019.
  • As per the guidelines, the blogs/tweets/posts by celebrities should be based information or with an experience with the product.
  • The disclaimers which are displayed in ads of products and which are in small font size will be treated as misleading ads and will be penalised for same.
  • The disclaimers should be displayed such that they can be noticeable by the watcher or by the consumer and must be in similar font size and language of the ads.
  • The voiceover format of disclaimer should also be in sync manner of the ads.
