Current Context: Government of India has formed a Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) to look into Corporatisation of Ordinance Factory Board (OFB).
- The EGoM will be chaired by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
- The other members of EGoM are: Amit Shah (Union Home Minister), Nirmala Sitharaman (Union Finance Minister), Ravi Shankar Prasad (Union Minister for Law and Justice), Santosh Kumar Gangwar (Union Minister for Labour and Employment) and Jitendra Singh (Union Minister for Personnel, Public Grievance and Pension).
- The aim behind this formation of group of ministers to oversee Corporatisation of OFB is that GOI has decided to improve the autonomy, accountability and efficiency in ordinance supplies. For this purpose, the GOI has decided to convert OFB into one or more government owned corporate agencies.
- Currently, OFB is the subordinate office of the defence ministry.
- Role of EGoM: To look into entire process of corporatisation, to help in transition support and conduct redeployment plans of employees by managing ad safeguarding their wages and retirements. They will decide treatment for land assets of OFB.
