Current Context: The ministry of defence, GOI has signed a contract of worth Rs 2580 crore to boost the initiative of Make in India.

  • The ministry has signed the contract to supply six Pinaka regiments, a system rocket launcher to the Indian Army by 2024.
  • The contract is signed with: Bharat Earth Movers Ltd, Tata Power Company Ltd and Larsen & Toubro.
  • The Pinaka regiments will be comprised of 114 launchers. It will be encorporated with automated gun aiming and positioning system.
  • The Pinaka regiments will be put into operation at Northern and Eastern borders of India by Indian Army by 2024.
