Rajya Sabha passed Three Labour Codes for the Welfare of Country’s Workers

Current Context: Rajya Sabha (RS) passed three labour codes namely (1) Industrial Relations Code, 2020 (2) Code on Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020 (3) Social Security Code, 2020.

• The labour codes are passed with an aim to provide overall welfare to the worker community of India. 
• Under the Industrial Relations Code, 2020, effective dispute resolution mechanism will be followed in the time-bound manner at every institution.
• The Code on Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020 will provide safe working environment for all workers especially to women. This code will offer safety to workers while on the job.
• The Social Security Code, 2020 will provide the framework in which the workers belonging to organized and un-organized sectors will be included under social security measures. The code contains provisions related to EPFO, ESIC, building construction workers, maternity benefits, gratuity for un-organized sectors. The code will fulfill Prime Minister’s vision of Social Security. 
• All these 3 codes will prove beneficial to about 50 crore workers from organized and un-organized sectors.
