Current Context: World Bank has released its annual report for Human Capital Index 2020.

  • The index report is released with the title, The Human Capital Index 2020 Update: Human Capital in the time of COVID-19. 
  • Human Capital Index includes the analysis of vital elements of human capital across countries. It is based on health and education analytical data for about 174 countries.
  • The index is the collaboration between Human Development Practice Group and the Development Economic Group of World Bank. 
  • India has marked a rank position of 116th in the Human Capital Index 2020. 
  • India scored 0.49 in the current human capital index. However, the score is increased to 0.49 from 0.44 in 2018.
  • The index is topped by Singapore with a score of 0.88. 
  • The Second position is marked by Hong Kong and China with a score of 0.81. Japan marked the third rank position with a score of 0.80.
