Current Context: The United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS) and Bundnis Entwicklung Hilft and University of Stuttgart, Germany has released the World Risk Index 2020. 
World Risk Index 2020
  • The World Risk Index 2020 is the part of the World Risk Report 2020. 
  • As per the ranking in the index, India has been ranked at the 89th Position among 181 countries. India is termed under the category of Medium Risk.
  • The ranking is topped by Vanuatu which is termed under the category of Very High Risk. The second position is marked by Tonga, termed in the category of Very High Risk.
  • The 181st Rank position is marked by Qatar, termed under the category of Very Low Risk.
  • The World Risk Index is the analytical and statistical model for analysing the global risk of disasters like earthquakes, floods, droughts, storms and sea-level rise. It is calculated by analysing each country through the multiplication of exposure to extreme climatic conditions and natural calamities.
  • As per the report, Global Hotspots are in Oceania, South East Asia, Central America, West and Central Africa.
