DG of Shipping notified as National Authority for Recycling of Ships

Current Context: Government of India has notified Directorate General (DG) of Shipping as National Authority for Recycling of Ships.
DG of Shipping notified as National Authority for Recycling of Ships
  • Thus, the DG Shipping is notified with the designation with apex authority for ship recycling industry of India under Section 3, Recycling of Ships Act 2019. 
  • Being the apex authority, DG Shipping will administer, supervise and monitor activities related to ships recycling, as it will be responsible for sustainable development of the ship recycling industry of India.
  • DG shipping will be the final authority for approvals required by ship recycling yard owners and state governments. 
  • In this regards, the office for the National Authority of Ship Recycling will be setup in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
