DRDO successfully Flight Tested SMART

Current Context: Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted flight test of Supersonic Missile Assisted Release of Torpedo (SMART).

• SMART was flight tested from Dr. Abdul Kalam Island, formerly known as Wheeler Island off the coast of Odisha. 
• The test mission objectives like missile flight upto the range and altitude, separation of the nose cone, release of Torpedo and deployment of VRM (Velocity Reduction Mechanism) were perfectly observed and met the requirements as well. 
• SMART is the missile assisted release of Anti-Submarine Torpedo system which will be used for ASW (Anti-Submarine Warfare) operations.
