- Current Context: Government of Gujarat has announced to setup World’s biggest Zinc Smelter Project.
- For this purpose, the state government has signed MoU with Vedanta Group firm Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL).
- The project will be setup in Dosawada in Tapi district of Gujarat
- For this project, the HZL, makers of zinc, will be investing upto Rs 10,000 crore.
- The World’s Biggest Zinc Smelter Project will be having a production capacity of 300 KTPA (Kilo Tonnes Per Annum)
- The project will be a boon to develop employment opportunities for local youth
- The first phase of the plant will be in operation within 3 years and will satisfy the needs of domestic as well as global need by increasing exports
- The project will be utilising zero discharge technology and automation and is said to generate 5000 jobs opportunities directly and indirectly
