Current Context: The India Meteorological Departments (IMD) has launched the Impact Based Cyclone Based Warning System.
Impact Based Cyclone Warning System
  • The system is launched to reduce economic losses and property damage which is caused due to cyclones that hit Indian coast every year. 
  • The system was introduced by IMD in a presentation titled as ‘Chasing the Cyclones’ which was organized to mark the World Space Week. 
  • The system will deliver specific warnings to reduces economic and property damage losses. 
  • The system will deliver warnings with respect to location-wise or district-wise. 
  • The system is commissioned from this particular cyclone season i.e. Oct-Dec.

    • MD of IMD: Mrutyunjay Mohapatra
    • IMD functions under Ministry of Earth Sciences, whose Union Minister is Dr Harsh Vardhan
