MoHUA signs MoU with Swiggy

Current Context: The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs signed MoU with food aggregator Swiggy in order to provide online platform for street food vendors.
MoHUA signs MoU with Swiggy
  • The MoU is signed under PM Svanidhi Scheme.
  • Initially, the partnership between MoHUA and Swiggy will be initiated in 5 Indian cities like Chennai, Ahmedabad, Indore, Varanasi and Delhi.
  • On the first day of this initiative, 250 vendors from these 5 cities were taken on-board and the initiative is said to be beneficial to around 50 lakh street vendors. 
  • The street vendors will be provided with FSSAI registration, PAN Registration, training to handle Swiggy app. They will be offered with training related to hygiene packing system, technology and menu digitization.
  • This initiative will enhance income of street vendors.
