Current Context: Indian astronomers have collaborated with Prof.Andrea Ghez, who is 2020 Physics Nobel Laureate.
Indian Astronomers joined hands with 2020 Physics Nobel Laureate
  • They have joined hands to design the back-end instruments and study possible science prospects of the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) project.
  • The TMT is considered to be extremely large telescope (ELT) which will be installed at Maunakea on the island of Hawaii. 
  • Basically, the TMT project is an international collaborative project of CalTech, Universities of California, Canada, Japan, China, and India.
  • This project aims to revolutionize the understanding of the universe and the enigmas in it.
  • Name of Indian astronomers who collaborated with Prof. Andrea Ghez are: Dr Annapurni Subramanium, Director of the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) and Dr Shashi Bhushan Pandey, a scientist at Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES).
