Pakke Tiger Reserve offers Insurance cover against Covid-19 for Green Soldiers

Current Context: The Pakke Tiger Reserve (PTR) which is in Arunachal Pradesh offers insurance cover against COVID-19 for “green soldiers”.

• Thus, PTR in Arunachal Pradesh has become first in the eight-state of the northeast to do so.
• Under this, 57 frontline staff i.e. green soldiers of the PTR park are insured for 9 months against health issues related to coronavirus.
• The insurance amount was paid by Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) which is an NGO with the support from Foundation Serge.
• The insurance coverage is of Rs. 1 lakh each is given and a few who would be retiring soon has been insured for Rs. 50,000.
