20th Sri Lanka Economic Summit

Current Context: The 20th edition of Sri Lanka Economic Summit (SLES) was held and a keynote address at its inauguration ceremony was delivered by Union Minister for Finance &

Corporate Affairs, Nirmala Sitharaman. 

• The summit was organized by Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC).
• Theme for SLES 2020: ‘Roadmap for Take-off: Driving a People-Centric Economic Revival’. 
• Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman mentioned the measures being taken by India to mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic. 
• She also highlighted ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan’ along with the vision of ‘Self Reliant Sri Lanka’ and considered these two major reforms to be complementary which will help in economic rejuvenation efforts by both countries.
