ISRO To Launch CMS-01

Current Context: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will be launching CMS-01, which is the communication satellite.

  • It will be launched on 17th Dec 2020 with the help of Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C50).  
  • The launching will take place from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. 
  • The CMS-01 is basically a replacement of GSAT-12.
  • CMS-01 is India's 42nd Communication Satellite and will be launched to provide services in the Extended-C Band of the frequency spectrum, which includes Indian mainland, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep Islands.
