New Bhaupur-New Khurja Section of EDFC

Current Context: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated New Khurja- New Bhaupur section of Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC).

• The New Khurja- New Bhaupur section of EDFC is 351 km long and is situated in Uttar Pradesh.
• PM Modi also inaugurated Operation Control Centre of EDFC at Prayagraj. It will be command centre for the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor’s entire route length.
• The New Khurja- New Bhaupur section of EDFC is built with a costing of Rs 5750 crore. 
• This project has led to open new opportunities for local industries in Uttar Pradesh. 
• It will also be decongesting the existing Delhi-Kanpur mainline and will allow Indian railways to run faster trains.
• The Operation Control Centre of EDFC has got green building rating of GRIHA4 and is built as per the norms of the ‘Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan’.
