NTPC signed MoU with IIFM, Bhopal

Current Context: The NTPC Ltd (National Thermal Power Corporation) entered into MoU with Indian Institute of Forest Management (IIFM), Bhopal.

• They have signed MoU for the implementation of Narmada Landscape Restoration Project.
• The funds for this project will be provided from NTPC Ltd and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in equal proportions.
• The Narmada Landscape Restoration Project will be implemented in Khargone District of Madhya Pradesh, in the catchments of selected tributaries of the River Narmada between Omkareshwar and Maheshwar dams.
• The project is said to be completed within 4 years.
• IIFM Bhopal will be working on this project in partnership with Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), which is an intergovernmental organization which promotes sustainable and inclusive economic growth in emerging economies.
• The aim behind this project to increase the water quality and quantity in River Narmada and to construct an incentivisation mechanism to support the forest and farm communities of River Narmada’s basin.
