Current Context: Transparency International has released the Corruption Perception Index (CPI) 2020.

  • As per the index ranking, India is at 86th rank position among 180 nations, with a score of 40.
  • The score of India for CPI 2020, is below the average score of the Asia-Pacific region (31 countries) and global average.
  • The index is topped by New Zealand and Denmark, both with the score of 88.
  • The second positions are jointly marked by Switzerland, Finland, Sweden and Singapore with a score of 85 each.
  • The lowest rank in the index is marked by South Sudan and Somalia with a score of 12 each.
  • The index uses a scale of 0 to 100, in which 0 indicates highest corruption and 100 indicates null corruption.
