Current Context: The government of Maharashtra will be launching 'Jail Tourism' initiative from Yerawada prison of Pune on 26th Jan 2021.
Maharashtra to Start ‘Jail Tourism’
  • The initiative will be inaugurated by CM of the state in presence of Deputy CM on the occasion of Republic Day. 
  • This 'jail tourism' initiative will be launched with an aim to allow people to visit the historical prisons in the state as memories of many freedom fighters imprisoned there have been preserved.
  • In this initiative, school students, college students and other people can visit historical places.
  • The first phase of the initiative will be launched from Pune's Yerawada prison as many freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Lokmanya Tilak, Motilal Nehru, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Sarojini Naidu, Subhas Chandra Bose had been imprisoned in it.
