Current Context: India signed the strategic partnership agreement with the International Energy Agency (IEA) for the purpose of energy security.
Strategic Partnership Agreement signed between India and IEA
  • The MoU will enable cooperation in the global energy security sector.
  • The MoU was signed between Sanjiv Nadan Sahai, Secretary of Ministry of Power, GOI and Executive Director of IEA, Dr Fatih Birol.
  • Because of this agreement, India will be able to boost energy security cooperation with the major support from IEA member nations.
  • India will now keep a focus on IEA’s Clean Energy Transition Programme (CETP), Energy Security, Stability and Sustainability and will also increase petroleum storage in the country.
  • India will also be able to achieve its goal to become a gas-based economy.
  • IEA will implement various activities for India with cooperation with IEA’s member nations in order to strengthen the strategic partnership.
