Asom Mala Programme

Current Context: India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ‘Asom Mala’ programme in Dhekiajuli of Sonitpur district of Assam.

• The programme is launched to boost the road infrastructure and enhance the economic progress of the state.
• The programme will improve roads connectivity in Assam.
• Asom Mala Programme will focus on maintenance by conducting field studies of the roads and will thus improve Road Asset Management System of the state.
• During the launch of the programme, PM Modi also laid foundation stone to set up medical colleges and hospitals in Biswanath and Charaideo. This will improve the health sector of Assam.
• The medical colleges will be set up with an allocation of funds of Rs 1100 crores.
• The hospitals will be having bed capacity of 500 and 100 MBBS doctors allotment capacity.
