Current Context: The Government of Bihar signed MoU with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
Bihar signed MoU with UNEP
  • The MoU was signed to have climate resilience and low carbon development in Bihar by 2040.
  • With this, Bihar has become the first Indian state to enter into such an agreement.
  • The UNEP will assist the Bihar State Pollution Control Board (BSPCB).
  • UNEP will offer support for: Preparation of Greenhouse Gas Inventory and analysis of carbon footprint, developing climate impact vulnerability assessments, increasing technical expertise in BSPCB to tackle climate issues.
  • The UNEP will also analyse the state’s action plan on climate change which will help to coordinate India’s action plan on climate change as per the Paris Agreement.
