Current Context: The Ministry of Defence has signed a pact with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL).

  • The pact was signed to procure a Software-Defined Radio Tactical (SDR-Tac) ship-borne system, which is worth Rs 1000 crore.
  • This procurement deal of SDR-Tac will result in strategic depth in armed forces.
  • As per the pact, the delivery of SDR-Tac will be made within 3 years.
  • SDR-Tac: It is a four-channel multi-mode, multi-band, 19-inch rack-mountable, ship-borne software-defined radio system. It will perform voice and data communication for network-centric operations from ship-to-ship, ship-to-shore and ship-to-air.
