- The announcement for the same was made by Minister of the State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Babul Supriyo.
- The centre for CWCM will be established in Chennai’s National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM).
- The NCSCM is a research institute under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
- The CWCM centre will address research demands and will fillup the knowledge gaps with respect to capacity development and advance research programs on wetlands of India.
- It will also work to develop an integrated approach to conserve, manage and wise use of wetlands of India.
- It will assist the GOI to build partnerships with the national and international agencies which work to conserve wetlands.
- The CWCM centre will also develop policies and regulatory frameworks to manage, conserve and perform research of wetlands.
