Current Context: The 116th edition of Permanent Indus Commission (PIC) was held between India and Pakistan in New Delhi.

  • The 116th PIC meet was held under the Indus Water Treaty (IWT).
  • The Indian side was represented by Pradeep Kumar Saxena, India’s Commissioner for IWT and officers from Central Water Commission, Central Electricity Authority and National Hydroelectric Power Corporation.
  • Pakistan’s side was represented by Syed Muhammad Meher Ali Shah, Commissioner for IWT.
  • The dignitaries held a discussion about two projects, namely, Pakal Dul (1000 MW) and Lower Kalnai (48 MW).
  • Pakistan has asked India to share data related to the design of other Indian hydropower projects being planned to be developed, which was accepted by the Indian side and assured to cooperate in data sharing.
