REC Ltd, PFC signed pact with Bhutan based KHEL

Current Context: India’s Rural Electrification Corporation Limited (REC Ltd) and Power Finance Corporation (PFC) has signed a pact with Bhutan’s Kholongchhu Hydro Energy Limited (KHEL).
REC Ltd, PFC signed pact with Bhutan based KHEL
  • The pact was signed to finance the hydroelectric project of 600MW at Trashiyangtse, Bhutan.
  • The project will be financially supported in the debt-equity ratio of 70:30.
  • As per the pact, REC and PFC will grant Rs 2029 crore each. Bhutan’s NPPF will grant the loan of Rs 200 crore and the Bank of Bhutan will grant the loan of Rs 200 crore.
  • The project will be executed as the Inter-Governmental Agreements between GOI and Bhutan’s gov.
  • KHEL is a 50:50 joint venture between SJVN India and Druk Green Power Corporation of Bhutan which is set up to develop the hydroelectric project in east Bhutan.
