- The advanced chaff technology is developed to protect and safeguard India’s naval ships against missile attacks from enemies.
- The technology is developed by DRDO’s laboratory called Defence Laboratory Jodhpur.
- The laboratory has developed three variants of technology namely short-range chaff rocket, medium-range chaff rocket and long-range chaff rocket.
- All the variants fulfil the qualitative requirements of the Indian Navy as they conducted the trials for the same in the Arabian Sea.
- Chaff: It is a passive expendable electronic countermeasure technology that is used to protect naval ships from the enemy’s radar and RF missile seekers. A small quantity of chaff material, when deployed in the air, acts as a decoy and deflects the enemy’s missiles, which keeps the ships safe from enemy attacks.
