- As per the report, India is ranked at 117th position on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which were adopted as a part of the 2030 agenda by 193 United Nations member states in 2015.
- The SDG score for India is 61.9/100.
- Initially, India was at 115th position, thus India has dropped by 2 places from last year in the ranking.
- The reason behind the dropped position of India is major challenges like ending hunger and achieving food security (SDG 2), achieving gender equality (SDG 5) and building resilient infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization and fostering innovation (SDG 9) remain in the country.
- India ranks below four South Asian countries namely Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
- As per state-wise preparedness, Jharkhand and Bihar are least prepared to meet the SDGs goals by 2030. Jharkhand lags in 5 out of 17 SDGs and Bihar lags in 7 out of 17 SDGs.
- The best performing states/UTs working to attain 17 SDGs by 2030 are Kerala, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh.
