Current Context: The Government think tank NITI Aayog released the third edition of India’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) index 2020-21.

  • The index evaluates SDG progress for every states and UTs for the parameters like social, economic and environmental.
  • The index was launched by Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, Rajiv Kumar.
  • The index was topped by Kerala with a score of 75.
  • The other top performers are: Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana.
  • The lowest performer is Bihar with a score of 52.
  • The other lowest performers are: Jharkhand, Arunachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya.
  • Among the UTs, Chandigarh has topped the index and is followed by Delhi and Puducherry.
