Current Context: The Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) has become the first standards body in India to join the ‘One Nation, One Standard’ scheme of the central government.

  • The RDSO works to set standards for the Indian Railway Sector.
  • Thus now onwards, the RDSO will be recognised as a ‘Standard Developing Organisation’ by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), for the tenure of 3 years.
  • The ‘One Nation, One Standard’ scheme is implemented by the BIS.
  • The BIS and RDSO will now jointly set the parameters for quality goods and services for the Railways.
