Assam Gov. to setup New Dept. to Protect Indigenous Faith and Culture

Current Context: The cabinet of Assam announced that it will create a new department that will work to protect the culture and practices of tribal people and other indigenous communities.

• The new department will make sure that the indigenous population of the state will get the right to preserve their faith and traditions and will offer the requisite support for the same.
• The indigenous tribes like Bodos, Rabhas, Mishings, and others have their own religious beliefs and unique traditions, and until now these communities have not received the support for their preservation. Therefore, a new department will be set up.
• It will be an independent department, which will solely focus on the faith and culture preservation of ethnic communities and not concern itself with other matters related to them.
