MoD Implemented ‘SPARSH’ System

Current Context: The Ministry of Defence (MoD) implemented SPARSH (System for Pension Administration Raksha) system.

• The system will help to automate sanctioning and disbursement of defence pension.
• It is a web-based system that can process pension claims and credits pension directly into the bank accounts of defence pensioners
• The system is a part of establishment of Service Centres that grants last-mile connectivity to those pensioners who are not able to directly access the SPARSH portal
• Also, there are several offices of the Defence Accounts Department which are working as Service Centres for pensioners. Apart from these departments, two of the major banks namely State Bank of India (SBI) and Punjab National Bank (PNB) are also serving as Service Centres. The Indian Army has also entered into MoUs with these banks for the same.
• The SPARSH will remove the need for an external intermediary as it will directly process the pension
